I love it, too, Vicki. I feel like sending it to our politicians! And others. I love this line in particular: 'What if the other side might hold a piece of the puzzle that your own blinkered world-view has neglected to consider?' Says it all, for us all, and me too.
I love this, Vicki. While I struggle to apply this approach to current events at the moment, I’m at least learning to do it in personal relationships and daily interactions. As you say, that’s exactly where it begins.
I really appreciate this reflection Vicki. really helpful in settling my own sadness and fear. i often return to the equanimity found in balancing wisdom and compassion, holding in mind the power of dialectical thinking sits nicely along side of this. H
Thank you Vicki, what you are expressing speaks well to my resistance to stand or vote for one side or the other, or even have an opinion at times. This can often leave me bereft and and bit lonely in my intention and attempt to hold with both or all sides. This is especially challenging for me when my own values or human rights are in question.
And yes, I agree, the practice begins with listening to the other in our own household.
Hi Vicki, your post on dialectical thinking is timely and wise and certainly has given me food for thought, as a traditional left-wing voter. Easier said than done, as you point out, but worth reflecting on and trying out! Am really appreciating your blog posts btw, always thoughtful and at times, thought provoking, thank you.

Oh thank you Deborah, that's great to hear. Feel free to send it to our new PM 😂

Thanks Helen, glad to hear it's helpful. You were one of the first people introducing me to DBT back in the day 😊

I appreciate the analogy of a bird! 🙏
Thanks for your thoughtful comments Ingrid. Yes - our own household - possibly the hardest and most important place to practice 😉
